When I upload my store, I receive the following error message:
Warning: The HTML specifies source files (with "SRC=" commands)
that reside in directories other than the acatalog directory
on the web site. Creative Ecommerce cannot handle these files
and they are being ommitted from the list of files to upload.
No source files should have a path. Store them in the specific
directory locally, and they will be uploaded to the Creative
Ecommerce web directory.
This error message is benign, and is just a warning that some
files you have specified in your design may not be uploaded.
There is no way to disable this message, so if you want it to
stop appearing, you need to do the following:
1) Images
Any custom images that you include in your Layout / Site should
be stored in your site folder (e.g. 'Site1') and NOT in any
sub-folders. Note: This does not affect images for your products
and sections - you can keep those in sub-folders. It is just
for images that are used solely in the design.
2) Links to other pages on your web site
Any links to web pages that are not in your acatalog folder
should be referred to with a full URL (e.g. 'http://your.URL/company.html')
rather than with a relative path (e.g. '../../company.html').
3) Links to pages created by Creative
Any links to pages that are in your 'acatalog' folder should
be of the form:
http://your.URL/cgi-bin/ss00000x.pl?SECTIONID=Page%5fFilename%2ehtml&NOLOGIN=1
Where ss00000x.pl is the name of your search script Page%5fFilename%2ehtml
is the name of the file you want to link to. Note that you have
to encode any non-alphanumeric characters so an underscore '_'
becomes '%5f' and a full stop '.' becomes '%2e'.
Tip: If you create a brochure fragment temporarily that links
to the section you want to create a custom link to, then Creative
will automatically create a link in the correct format. You
can use the HTML of this link in your design.

I am having a problem getting Creative to connect to the internet.
It was working but now it isn't. I get the following error message
when I try and upload:
'An error occurred when trying to connect with the server. This
can happen when Windows is confused about proxy settings. If
you have Internet Explorer or another application configured
to work with a proxy, the settings should be the same for Creative
Ecommerce. Please check your connection first.'
This error often occurs after a
firewall has been installed. The firewall software must be configured
to allow Creative to FTP to your server. |
|
I have trouble uploading my store. It keeps timing out and appearing
to 'hang'. When I look at the Task Manager it says Creative is
'not responding'.
This error often occurs after a firewall has been installed.
The firewall software must be configured to allow Creative to
FTP to your server. The problem
is when a connection times out (for whatever reason) Creative
is having difficulty making the re-connection.
It is possible to make a change to the system registry that
might help this. The changes are described in
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/280/ and
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/30/
Also, if you are uploading to a RAQ server, there is a known
(but not well known) problem with a RAQ server's ftp help file
and the windows IP/FTP stack.
What happens is that the RAQ server delivers a ftp help file
on login and this sometimes garbles/corrupts the FTP messages
coming out of the windows IP/FTP stack.
To fix this:
Web hosts
SSH Telnet in, and do the following:
cd /home/sites
find . -name .ftphelp -exec rm -v -r -f {} \;
cd /etc/skel
mv .ftphelp disabled.ftphelp
Note: The mv command on the file in the /etc/skel folder just
stops the RAQ from creating .ftphelp files every time you create
a new user. There is nothing to stop users deleting their own
.ftphelp files at any time. They are the same ownership permissions
as the user.
Users
If you're on a cobalt RAQ, then you should be able to sort out
the problem for you own site by yourself.
Login using an FTP client, and change to the following folder:
/users/username
Look for a file called .ftphelp and delete it.
(You may need to put -la or enable viewing of hidden files in
your FTP client to see the file, depends on what FTP client
you are using). |

When using BTopenworld ADSL, I get an error message during "merging
files" at the end of the upload process.
This is caused by BT's ADSL service using a "transparent
cache".
In Web | Network setup, click on PROXY and enter the following:
For HTTP proxy:
Select Proxy
Server Address: 172.16.102.15
Port: 3128
Username: <leave blank>
Password: <leave blank>
For FTP proxy:
Select None |
|
When
I upload, or even refresh, I receive the following error message:
An error occurred while merging files on the remote site. Error
copying from 'from' file.
If you delete diff*.fil, old*.fil, new*.fil, full*.fil, prev*.fil,
and cand*.fil from your site directory on your PC and your 'acatalog'
folder on your web site, you should then be able to refresh
your site successfully (using 'Web | Refresh Website').
This can also be done from Help | Troubleshooting | 'Purge and
Refresh Web Site' which does the above automatically. |
|
Why do I get a '502 Gateway' error during the merge phase of
a site update?
This may be caused by a script timeout.
Contact your ISP to see if the script timeout limit can be raised
to allow the merge script time to complete.. |
|
What
could be causing FTP Timeout errors when uploading to the server?
Creative uses multiple concurrent FTP connections to upload the
web site.
Some Web Hosts limit the number of allowed connections within
a given period.
Creative recommends that the server allow 5 minutes for 10 connections
in 60 seconds.
Lower values may be acceptable but a setting of 5 minutes for
5 connections in 90 seconds has been known to cause FTP Timeout
errors.
You will need to contact your ISP to change these settings.
|
|
While uploading Creative Ecommerce, a 'Script is unable to run
on Web Server' message is received
The most common reason for this message is if the 'Path to Perl'
is incorrect in the network settings ( Web | Network Setup),
this applies if your ISP runs UNIX servers. To rectify this
you will need to contact your ISP and get the correct path from
them (they will need at least Perl 5.004).
If your ISP runs Windows NT servers, it may be because the Perl
executable has not been correctly associated with your CGI-BIN.
|
|
On
upload I get an error message saying 'files names conflict'.
This can happen when you have created a link to a existing store
page in your Layout, and Creative is trying to upload this linked
file thus trying to upload it twice. Try changing the link to
a full URL rather than a relative one. |
|
When
trying to upload my site, the process gets to 'Sending Base
Files' and then seems to hang on the first file it sends up.
After a while I went into Task Manager and it says that Creative
is 'Not Responding'. I am using BT Broadband
Go into 'Web | Network Setup' and tick where it says 'Use Passive
FTP Transfers'. Try the upload again. |
|
I
am trying to upload via a proxy server. I have entered by details,
but Creative still cannot connect to my web site.
Try setting HTTP Proxy to 'Use Windows Default' and set 'FTP
Proxy' to 'None'. This is quite a common set-up for home PCs.
|
|
Why
do I get 'Error Accessing Installation Directory' when uploading
a large site?
It may be that your hard disk needs defragmenting. A badly fragmented
drive may cause delays in uploading files resulting in timeouts
between Creative and the FTP Server. |
|
Creative
cannot connect to the Internet.
Check whether Internet Explorer or Outlook Express is set to
'Work Offline' |
|
When
I try to update my website this message appears (even though
the test succeeded):
Possible Cause:
Network timed out
Network is down
FTP server is down
Remote server disk is full
The permissions on the file or directory on the remote
server are locked
If the file being sent is a CGI script
(nqxxxxxx.pl or caxxxxxx.pl) someone else may be
using the same CGI script ID as you.
If you are using an ISDN line, check the ISDN line settings.
The box for 'enable data compression' needs to be ticked. |
|
We
have tried to retrieve orders, and get server errors. "the server
returned an invalid or unrecognised response.".
This type of error usually points towards either:
a) network settings have changed.
b) firewall implemented or setting changed on the local PC,
Lan or Host Server.
c) Host Server problem.
You will need to double check all the above. If there has been
no connection changes - i.e. installing a firewall - then try
going to 'Web | Refresh Website' and then try downloading again. |
|
I
cancelled the upload by terminating the application while updating.
What effect will this have on web server?
This action may have left incomplete files on the server, therefore
the command 'Web | Refresh Website' will need to be run, to
re-build the site.
You should avoid terminating Creative with the Task Manager even
if the Task Manager reports that Creative is not responding.
The application may not be responding because it is busy. Only
terminate the application if you are sure that the application
is not processing normally.

|
When
I upload the store I get the message "There is a diff file checksum
error".
This can happen if the diff files go out of sync. You will need
to delete the following files from your site folder and from
the acatalog folder on the server:-
diff*.fil
old*.fil
new*.fil
full*.fil
prev*.fil
cand*.fil
Select 'Web | Refresh Website', this will cause Creative to completeley
refresh all of the necessary data files.
This can also be done from Help | Troubleshooting | 'Purge and
Refresh Web Site' which does the above automatically. |
|
After
refreshing the web site, user is unable to download orders.
The catalog received an internal server error from the web server,
the cgi scripts are no longer executing on the web server.
To fix this problem, copy the cgi scripts (all *.pm and *.pl
files) from the 'Creative v8\Original' directory, then start
Creative. Refresh the web site ( Web | Refresh Website) to upload
the scripts. Note, if you have customised the scripts then you
will need to re-apply your changes after copying the scripts
to the site folder.
This can also be done from Help | Troubleshooting | 'Purge and
Refresh Web Site' which does the above automatically except
for reapplying changes to amended files. |
|
How
do I set Creative Ecommerce to use Passive FTP?
Tick the box 'Use Passive FTP' in 'Web | Network Setup'. |
|
What
cause the error 'INET_ATON failed - host not found (www.yoursite.co.uk,
No such file or directory)'?
INET_ATON is a Perl function, found within the standard Perl
installation on the server. It is used by Creative Ecommerce
to resolve the server name. When INET_ATON fails, it is normally
due to DNS errors on the server. Ask your hosting company to
investigate. |
|
Creative
crashed while uploading to the server, now I get the message
when updating that the 'search key' cannot be found.
unning the command 'Housekeeping | Compact Databases' will resolve
this. |
|
On
upload and download error message : "Unable to connect to the
ftp server . The computer is disconnected from the network."
This can happen when Internet Explorer or Outlook Express is
configured to work offline. |
|
When
I try and upload or download I receive an error with the following
in it: Server version xxxxx client version xxxxx (eg. 7 FBIA
client version 7 GBGA)
This is caused when the Server version is different to the client
version. This usually means the developers and clients version
of Creative Ecommerce are different.
Make sure the client is running the same version as that used
to originally create the site and upload to the server. |
|
I
get a ''CGIWrap error' when merging files during the upload
to the server.
The path to the cgi-bin is not set correctly in the hosts Web
Server application. You will need to contact your host to fix
this problem. |
|
When
I attempt to upload I get the message - internal application
error. Unable to open CreativeSimpleShipping8 - ensure this is
setup as a valid ODBC source.
1. Close Creative.
2. From the Windows Control Panel, open Data Sources (ODBC)
3. Click on ADD (within the User DSN tab)
4. Select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) and click OK
5. Enter CreativeSimpleShipping8 for the Data Source Name (Note:
this is case sensitive)
6. Leave the description <blank>
7. Under Database, click select and navigate to the database
SimpleShipping.mdb which can be found in the folder ShipControl
under the appropriate site folder (by default this is 'Site1\ShipControl'.
8. Click OK and close all the windows
9. Restart Creative - it should now function correctly.

|
When testing the network settings Creative gives an error saying that you do not have permission to access the cgi-bin.
Check with the hosting company that the permissions on the cgi-bin are set to 755 (rwxr-xr-x) on a UNIX server, or on NT, that the user account that Creative Ecommerce is using, has NTFS permissions of 'Change' and web server permissions of read/write/execute on the cgi-bin directory. |
|
When trying to upload the store I get 'Error renaming fultext.fil to oldtext.fil, permission denied'.
This may be caused by incorrect permissions on the acatalog directory on your server. To check this:
1) Select 'Test' in 'Web | Network Setup'. If the test fails on permissions, with a message like 'Unable to write to directory' etc., then change the permissions on the 'acatalog' directory and refresh the site (Web | Refresh Website).
Alternativley the *.fil files may not be writeable by the scripts, this can happen if the effective user of the scripts has changed since the *.fil files were originally uploaded. You will need to delete the following files from your site folder and from the acatalog folder on the server:-
diff*.fil old*.fil new*.fil full*.fil prev*.fil cand*.fil
Select 'Web | Refresh Website', this will cause Creative Ecommerce to completeley refresh all of the necessary data files.
This can also be done from Help | Troubleshooting | 'Purge and Refresh Web Site' which does the above automatically. |
|
When uploading my store, the server will not allow me to delete the cat files, what is wrong?
The permissions on the web server are incorrect. You will need to check / change the permissions |
|
During uploading the check list appears and then disappears and the upload stops
Check if 'Outlook Express' or 'Internet Explorer' are in 'Work Offline' mode. If they are change them to 'Work Online'. If this is not the case, and you are using a PSP (Payment Service Provider) - Close Creative, re-run the PSP setup (PSPSetup.exe) from the original Creative CD, restart Creative and select 'Web | Refresh Website'. |
