When using SSL for the whole site, why does the site not work correctly when accessed from a non-SSL link?

Actinic uses the initial URL to determine the BASE HREF, this is done to ensure store identity when different URL's point to the same store.

Normally, where a whole site uses SSL the server is configured to only accept secure connections. This is usually done by redirecting non-SSL URLs to SSL URLs. Contact your ISP to see if this can be configured for your site.

In the basket/checkout/search results our site is displaying a ? rather than a £. Any ideas what is causing this?
he problem is that your webserver is using 'Unicode' (UTF) as the default character set, but it should be using ISO. You need to ask your web host to edit the web server config file for your Apache server and change:

AddDefaultCharset UTF8

to

AddDefaultCharset ISO-8859-1

I don't want to change my base page name to index.html but when customers view http:///acatalog/, they can see the directory listing.

On the content tree, click the green 'Online Catalogue' icon and on the 'Page Settings' tab change 'Base Page Name' to 'index.html'.

If you would prefer not to do this, create a manual index.html and add some HTML that will automatically route visitors to the first page of your catalog home page. Copy the following code into 'Notepad' or an equivalent text editor and then save it as 'index.html' and upload it to the 'acatalog' folder of your website.

Replace <domain> with your domain name and <pagename> with the base page name.

How do I force my pop-up boxes to stay on top (keep focus)?

If you open up 'actiniccore.js' within your 'Site1' (or equivalent) folder, you can modify the code for the ShowPopUp function.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page to the function 'ShowPopUp'. You can then just replace that function with this code below. All it does is call focus to the page if it is hidden by another page.

How can I have my online store appear, when I just go to the URL (e.g. http://www.yoursite.co.uk/)?

One method is to have an invisible frame, which will automatically open the Actinic home page. The code is as follows:-

Please bear in mind though, as with all frames, this page is the only one that is loaded into the browser, all of the meta tags must be located on this page.

What does the nq000001.pl script do? My web logs show lots of people getting to this script and getting no further.

This script is called by Actinic during an upload or a download. It is not called by the online store at all.

The Cart summary does not work when Demon Internet hosts the site.

This occurs because Demon Internet hosts the CGI directory on a different server from the site. As a result the Cookie is saved for the domain of the CGI server but the JavaScript running in the browser is attempting to read the Cookie for the site server domain.

To resolve this problem the Perl Script Actinic.pm needs to be modified to write the domain name as a parameter when saving the Cookie.

- Locate the file Actinic.pm in the site folder.
- Edit the file using a text editor such as Notepad.
- Search for…

Print cart cookies

- A few lines after this line you should see…

- Replace the line…

"; PATH=/;\r\n";

- with…

- Save the file and exit.
- Update the site.

Actinic is not able to provide any detailed support for script changes made. If you find that there is a problem, an original copy of the script can be found within the 'Original' folder in your installation. Copy this into your site folder.

I have uploaded my store but when I try to view it I do not see the shop front page.

Actinic loads the store into a folder called 'acatalog' on the server. To view the store you need to include /acatalog/ in the URL. So that buyers can find the store more easily you should create a 'home page' which links to the store and upload this to the web root directory.
